Pitsco Education Missions’ Defining Elements
No two words affected the development of Missions more than flexibility and effectiveness. The needs of elementary schools are as unique as those of middle and high schools, and no solution created for those environments can be expected to work well in the lower grade levels. Pitsco Education takes what's been proven to work in a classroom and applies it to the age-appropriate needs of the elementary school student. It's the combination of these features that makes the Missions system so effective.
Four unique elements are at the core of Missions.
- Missions are developmentally appropriate for children from kindergarten through Grade 6. Curriculum, environment, and activities are created around the needs of each target age group.
- Missions are a hands-on science solution. Missions abound with hands-on activities. The curriculum topics cover content in life science, Earth science, and physical science, while integrating math, technology, and language arts.
- Teamwork is an integral part of Missions curriculum. All students work in teams of four, with younger students sharing responsibilities and older students taking on more specific roles.
- The Missions classroom environment addresses the ever-present challenges of space, time, and resources. This system can be successfully implemented many different ways, including as a science lab, a science center, and an after-school program.
