The Pitsco Education Missions Goal

The Pitsco Education Missions curricula are team-based lessons covering all areas of science. Each Mission is dedicated to a specific topic, such as magnetism or ocean life, and is delivered in a similar way to help facilitate classroom management.

A closer look at a Mission workflow shows how the ideas behind Missions are put into daily practice.

Each Mission is delivered in a similar way. Missions are delivered in four to five segments, called intervals. Within each interval, students complete a hands-on activity.

Missions are student centered. Each team of four completes their Mission by following directions included in the Mission curriculum. Video, audio, text, and graphical instructions are included, based on the activity and student age level.

Students work cooperatively. Teamwork is essential to the completion of a Mission. Student roles match maturity levels – younger students share responsibility as they complete their Mission, while older students have specific team roles.

Reading and communication skills are key. Reading and language arts skills are a critical part of elementary education. Missions emphasize reading and communication throughout the curriculum.

Assessment is built in. Each Mission contains a consistent assessment system. Attendance, scores, and personal goals are recorded, and each can be easily modified to fit your school’s policies and requirements.

Home Links get parents involved. Home Links are an optional home-completed component for each Mission. The Home Links include directions for the student and an adult to complete a math or science activity using materials from home.

Student Centered

Missions curriculum is student centered, which means students are provided with everything they need to complete their Mission. Students take charge of their own learning, allowing teachers to spend more time teaching one-on-one and in small groups.

Emphasis on Reading

Missions curriculum is reading intensive to help students develop the reading skills that are so important in the elementary grades. Reading levels in every Mission are developmentally appropriate for the age level of the student.
